Needmore Diversion Channel LEAP Engineering LLC is currently working on flood control improvements to Taylor Bayou. This will include regional detention and levee construction, channel improvements, and the construction of Needmore Diversion Channel, from the confluence of the North and South Forks of Taylor Bayou south to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. This project will directly impact over 692 acres of wetlands for the construction of the Green Pond Detention Basin. Adjacent to the Needmore Diversion, a total 44 acres of wetlands and riparian forest will be created. LEAP has also designed a saltwater barrier to be located at the diversion outlet into the Gulf Inracoastal Waterway. This, along with other preservation techniques, will result in the preservation of over 2,300 acres of land, including wetlands for mitigation to compensate for impacts to the approximate 692 acres of wetlands. |
