City of Beaumont - MLK Park
Masterplan

The City of Beaumont wanted to create a place for reflection and congregation that respected the achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The broad path terminates at an elevated plaza, extended out over the slope of the existing hill. Pedestrians are presented with a glimpse of the plaza and the bust of Dr. King situated behind a low berm. This commanding “perch” for the plaza and the alternating senses of enclosure and openness create an experience meant to reinforce the struggle between the vision and desire for freedom, and the constant struggle it takes to achieve it fully.

This project was a collaboration between our civil, landscape architecture, and design teams. This project was completed January 2008.
