CLECO Rodemacher Station
Unit 3 Intake Structure Cofferdam

In June 2007, LEAP was contracted to design
a cofferdam to allow construction of a new intake
structure at CLECO’s Rodemacher Station in Lena, LA. The photo below was taken on December 14, 2007. At the time of this photo the cofferdam has been constructed, dewatered and excavation completed. The men in the photo are installing reinforcing steel for the concrete intake structure’s foundation. The mud mat the men are working on is at elevation 76.5 ft. The water level on the lake side of the cofferdam (wall at top of photo) was at
elevation 100 ft. On the landward side of the excavation the natural ground is at elevation 112 ft while the bottom of the excavation is at elevation 68ft, a 44ft cut. The cofferdam internal bracing system was designed so that once the foundation was constructed the lower wales and struts could be removed to accommodate further construction of the vertical walls of the intake structure.
