Every year LJA Engineering, Inc. (LJA) gets in the Holiday spirit by participating in a local Charity Holiday drive. For the past several years we have organized a toy drive for the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots Program.

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

This year, as in past years, we have enjoyed watching the toys collect under the LJA tree in our corporate headquarters' lobby, in preparation of them being delivered to the U.S. Marines for distribution to the local community.

In 2010, LJA also participated in the Frank Aranza Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program in association with the GHBA (Greater Houston Builders Association) and Housing Authority of the City of Houston. The family LJA adopted included a 20 year-old single mom with two little girls age 6 months and 2 years. LJA provided the family with household items (microwave, dishes, sheets, pillows, etc.), clothes and toys.

LJA employees weathered the challenge for MS
The 2009 BP MS (Multiple Sclerosis) 150 got off to a late start in La Grange due to inclement weather, but that did not stop 11,000 riders from participating in the ride on Sunday, April 19th. Seven of these riders were LJA employees who pedaled to the finish line in Austin. The BP MS 150 benefits the National MS Society.

Paddling down Buffalo Bayou to enhance
Houston's waterway

Over 400 participants paddled to the start line to compete in Texas' largest canoe and kayak race. LJA sponsored two participants in the 2009 Buffalo Bayou Regatta, Mark Janzer, PE, and his daughter, Catherine. The Buffalo Bayou Partnership, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing Houston's historic waterway, hosts the annual race every year. Houstonians of all ages participated in the 15-mile race along Buffalo Bayou.

Volunteers with Big Hearts Make a difference in Fort Bend County
Paintbrushes, ladders and LJA volunteers surrounded a home on Paintbrush Lane early on a Saturday morning. LJA volunteers painted a home in the Sugar Land area as part of a project with the Fort Bend Corps' Hearts & Hammers program. The purpose of Hearts & Hammers is to rehabilitate homes for low-income elderly and disabled homeowners in Fort Bend County. LJA is a founding member and contributes donations that are used for major repairs such as foundation repair, roof replacement, electrical and plumbing repairs.
